The Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Sapsucker Woods is an oasis of nature, education, and peaceful recreation for all ages. Just 5 miles northeast of Ithaca, our state-of-the-art Visitor Center and 3 miles of level hiking trails are FREE to explore. Things to see and do include: inspiring art installations, including Maya Lin’s “Sound Ring” and Jane Kim’s gigantic mural “From So Simple Beginning”; a movie theater playing short films about birds; an interactive sound studio; and a 3/4-mile loop trail around Sapsucker Woods Pond, which brims with birds and other wildlife at all times of year. Binoculars and field guides are available to borrow. The Visitor Center is open from10:00am – 4:00pm, 7 days a week. The trails are open from dawn until dusk.
